Moneyline

Also known as: ML

A straightforward bet on which team or player will win a match or event. There is no point spread involved. In a two-way moneyline (e.g., tennis), you pick the winner. In a three-way moneyline (e.g., football/soccer), you can also bet on a draw. Moneyline bets are the simplest form of sports betting.

Each Way (E/W)
A bet consisting of two equal parts: one on the selection to win and one on the selection to place (finish in the top positions). Common in horse racing and golf. If your selection wins, both parts pay out. If it places but does not win, only the place part pays at a fraction of the win odds (typically 1/4 or 1/5).
Asian Handicap (AH)
A handicap betting system originating in Asia that eliminates the draw as a possible outcome by using quarter-goal and half-goal lines. For example, a -0.75 Asian Handicap splits your stake between -0.5 and -1.0 lines. This system offers more precise handicapping and often lower margins than European handicaps.
Double Chance (DC)
A bet that covers two of the three possible outcomes in a football match: Home or Draw (1X), Away or Draw (X2), or Home or Away (12). It offers a higher probability of winning but at lower odds than a single outcome bet. Double Chance is popular for reducing risk when backing an underdog.
European Handicap (EH)
A handicap bet using whole numbers (e.g., -1, -2, +1) where three outcomes are possible: home win, draw, or away win with the handicap applied. Unlike Asian Handicap, draws are possible, meaning you can lose even with a one-goal margin. For example, Team A with a -1 handicap must win by 2+ goals.
Outright
A bet on the overall winner of a tournament, league, or competition, rather than a single match result. For example, betting on which team will win the Premier League. Similar to futures but more commonly used in European betting markets. Outright bets usually have many possible outcomes.
Back Bet
A bet in favor of an outcome occurring, which is the standard type of bet most people are familiar with. On a betting exchange, backing is the opposite of laying. When you back a selection, you believe it will win. If it does, you receive the payout at the agreed odds.
